Dropping a Camera As I mentioned, I dropped the camera. Here are a couple of photos showing the after effects of dropping a modern DSLR camera from about 6 feet onto concrete. Thanks Nikon for using a magnesium alloy frame and encasing the camera in plastic. Even though the extended battery pack (screwed on to the bottom of the camera - made of plastic) took the first impact (with the battery compartment door coming off, and two major cracks on either side), the second bounce was clearly absorbed by the camera body, and the third and final bounce was on the edge of the lens. The camera and lens are fine and functioned the rest of the evening without a problem, I was even able to continue using the battery pack- though I am now retiring this unit. Nikon can contact me for a testimonial on how durable the D300 is.
