My First Show - Visualization Class All are invited Wow, My first photography show - and a reception! While I wont be quitting my day job just yet, I am participating in my first public photography show at a local gallery and all friends and family are invited to the opening reception: Sunday, March 7th, 2010 from 1:30-4 pm. Keeble and Shuchat Photography Second Floor Gallery 290 S. California Avenue, Palo Alto, California 94306 Wine and cheese (from the great state of Wisconsin) will be available The artists will be on hand, along with the class instructor and a guest photographer. You will also be able to negotiate print sales with the artists :) Click here for a Google map for the event The store is on the corner of California and Birch, do not go to the 260 store across the street and in the middle of the block. For the past 10 months, I have been participating in a pre-visualization workshop. The class has focused on visualizing the image, from before you click the shutter through the final output (i.e. a print). For myself, I have seen my approach change as I think more, and recognize more quickly, what will ultimately make a good, final image. I think my work has improved, but unlike some of the others in the class, I do not think it has fully "clicked-in" for me. I am still trying to figure out, or at least get an idea, about what my style is or will be. The workshop format was to photograph a monthly assignment, at first the work focused on just a single graphic element (Line, texture, pattern, light etc.) and then later to try and bring a rhythm to our images. At class meetings there would be a critique of our work and the teacher would pass on other insights into composition and related technical tips. The class, down to about 10 people now, will be displaying its work in the upstairs gallery at Keeble and Shuchat, a great store that gladly accepts my money, but that also hosts some fabulous class and field trips (such as the Alcatraz trip I went on a year ago and an upcoming trip on the bay aboard USS Potomac). The class's work will be on display for most of March. Besides coming to give me moral support, the other students' work is spectacular and you will enjoy their images. My submissions for the show include images from my recent trip to Death Valley as well as some additional work from over the past 10 Months |
