Eating and drinking is important to a vacation, and I was not disappointed, though do not expect anything too fancy in Melaque and Barra, at least based on my experiences during the off season. Though to be fair a lot of places just were not open.  In any case it was good, affordable, and the hosts where friendly.

The people at the La Paloma did a good job at steering me to the better places and they have a good dining guide for the area.

Below are some of my favorites:

Biggotes - was a favorite of mine in Melaque, relaxing spot on the beach where a breeze would offer a relief from the nighttime humidity, the people were friendly, and you could get a good look at the thunder storms, oh and the food was good and the beer cold.

Calypso Cafe - nice place between the beach and the main shopping area of Melaque.  Christine and the others were friendly, the food was good, and the A/C was a welcomed relief at times.

Sea Masters - Great place in Barra for a bit nicer level of food.  Had a great balcony over the beach for a terrific view of the bay and sunsets.  This was also where I was at during the storm.  The photos of the clouds over the bay were taken from here.

Bananas - Great place for breakfast, in the Hotel de Navidad, on the beach across from the school in Barra.
